Technical Requirements for Elbows

Pulished on Oct. 24, 2019

The Malleable Iron Pipe Fittings Manufacturer explains the technology required for the manufacture of elbows.

Elbow is a metal fitting that changes the direction of the pipe on the carbon steel pipe. The method of connecting includes screw thread and welding. According to the angle, there are three kinds of most commonly used 45°, 90°and 180°, and other abnormal angle elbows such as 60° are also included according to engineering needs. Elbow materials are cast iron, stainless steel, alloy steel, malleable iron, carbon steel, non-ferrous metals and plastics. The connection with the pipe includes direct welding (the most common way), flange connection, hot melt connection, electric melt connection, threaded connection and socket connection. According to the production process, it can be divided into welding elbow, punching elbow, push elbow, casting elbow and so on.

The technical requirements:

1. Because most of the pipe fittings are used for welding, in order to improve the welding quality, the ends are all turned into bevels, leaving a certain angle with a certain edge. This requirement is also stricter, such as the thickness of the side, the angle and the range of deviation. The surface quality and mechanical properties are basically the same as the pipe. For the convenience of welding, the fittings are of the same steel type as the connected pipe.

2. All the pipe fittings must be surface treated, the iron oxide scale on the inner and outer surfaces is sprayed off by shot peening, and then coated with anti-corrosive paint. This is for export needs. Moreover, in order to facilitate transportation and prevent corrosion and oxidation at home, we need to do this work.
